Kentucky State Board of Cosmetology Has Officially Posted About Senate Bill 14 as Law and Updates the Community as of Today, September 3rd, 2024

At Louisville Beauty Academy, a Kentucky State-Licensed and State-Accredited Beauty College, we believe that staying informed about the latest regulations and public information in the beauty industry is crucial for both current students and prospective professionals. As part of our commitment to transparency and education, we are pleased to share the following important updates regarding Kentucky regulations and licensing procedures for beauty professionals.

Senate Bill 14 (RS 24) Now in Effect: What Prospective Nail Technicians Need to Know

Senate Bill 14, now effective in Kentucky, brings important changes for prospective nail technician licensees:

  • Retesting Opportunity: If you fail your nail technician exam, you can now retake the exam 30 days after your previous attempt. This option applies ONLY to the nail technician license type.
  • Verification Process: Until a permanent solution is implemented, the Kentucky Board of Cosmetology (KBC) requires verification of eligibility to retest.

To facilitate this process, nail technician applicants should email the following information to [email protected]:

  • Full Name
  • Date of Birth
  • Last 4 digits of SSN
  • Permit Number (if applicable)
  • Date Last Test Result Received (if applicable)

This information will enable KBC staff to verify your eligibility to retest and coordinate with PSI, the official testing vendor.

License Renewal Requirements for 2024-2025: Compliance is Key

As the license renewal period approaches, it is essential to ensure your renewal application meets the required standards. The following are important reminders for all licensees:

  • Photo Requirements:
    • Not Accepted:
      • Car, salon, or home selfies with non-plain backgrounds.
      • Photos of your Driver’s License, previous KBC License, Passport, or Concealed Carry License.
      • Wedding and family photos, whether alone or with others.
      • Photos edited into shapes or images of your license verification page.
      • Photos with dark backgrounds or that do not show your entire face.
      • Photos taken more than 6 months before submission.

All applications must include a passport-style photo as per regulation 201 KAR 12:030. Licenses that meet the requirements will begin printing this week. If your submission is not compliant, you will receive a deficiency notification, and your license will not be printed until the issue is corrected. You may use a smartphone camera or an appropriate app to create a passport-style photo, but HEIC or live photos will not be accepted.

Curtis Nelson III: Redefining Beauty and Leadership in Nail Technology as a Black Man

Louisville Beauty Academy: Empowering Beauty Through Diversity and Inclusivity

Founded just seven years ago, Louisville Beauty Academy has rapidly risen to become a beacon of excellence in beauty education in Kentucky. With two bustling campuses and an impressive graduation rate exceeding 90%, the academy stands out not only for its academic success but also for its profound commitment to inclusivity, affordability, and creating a nurturing environment. Graduating over 1,000 students, Louisville Beauty Academy boasts one of the highest graduation rates in the state, if not the highest, while remaining one of the most affordable beauty colleges in Kentucky.

At the heart of Louisville Beauty Academy is a mission to bridge the gap in the beauty talent pool, providing unparalleled opportunities for underrepresented populations, including those with limited English proficiency, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities. The academy’s family-oriented, caring, and loving environment ensures that every student feels at home and supported in their pursuit of a beauty career.

Celebrating Curtis Nelson III: A Trailblazer at Louisville Beauty Academy

Among the many inspiring stories at Louisville Beauty Academy is that of Curtis Nelson III. Curtis, the first Black man to attend the school, has left an indelible mark on both his peers and the academy’s founder, Di Tran. Struck by Curtis’s professionalism, positive attitude, and unwavering care for others, Di Tran believes Curtis embodies the very essence of what Louisville Beauty Academy stands for. Curtis’s journey is not just a personal triumph but a testament to the academy’s mission to foster an inclusive and empowering environment for all.

Embracing Masculinity and Beauty

In American culture, beauty is often a term not readily associated with heterosexual men. It is seen as taboo and feminine, creating an implicit barrier that limits men’s freedom to embrace their own beauty. Curtis Nelson III is on a mission to change that narrative. Through his work and business, Curtis aims to promote a culture where men are allowed to be heterosexual and masculine while also embracing concepts of beauty.

“My work and business will empower men to be masculine and beautiful, just as they are free to be in many other countries,” Curtis explains. “Men should be free to be beautiful without being automatically viewed implicitly or explicitly as feminine.”

Promoting Diversity in the Beauty Industry

Curtis’s vision extends beyond individual empowerment. As a nail industry entrepreneur and beauty professional, he is dedicated to promoting more Black men to freely choose careers within the various beauty industries. His work celebrates all cultures and acknowledges the significant contributions of Black, Vietnamese, and White women towards the development of the global nail industry.

“My work and business will celebrate all cultures and the contributions of Black, Vietnamese, and White women towards the development of the global nail industry,” Curtis states proudly.

A Spiritual Space of Ambiance

Louisville Beauty Academy and Curtis’s business share a common goal: to provide a spiritual space of ambiance where women are respected and treated as team members, collaborators, and beauty professionals. This ethos is central to the academy’s family-oriented approach, ensuring that every student, regardless of their background, finds a supportive and empowering environment.

Conclusion

Louisville Beauty Academy is not just a beauty school; it is a transformative institution that champions diversity, inclusivity, and the celebration of beauty in all its forms. Through the inspiring journey of Curtis Nelson III and the academy’s unwavering commitment to its mission, Louisville Beauty Academy continues to set the standard for beauty education in Kentucky. As it looks to the future, the academy remains dedicated to empowering its students, bridging the talent gap, and fostering a culture where beauty knows no bounds.

Unveiling Beauty Beyond the Surface: A Tale of Passion and Inspiration at Louisville Beauty Academy

In the heart of Louisville, Kentucky, there’s a beauty college that stands out not just for its educational offerings, but for the vibrant community it has fostered. Louisville Beauty Academy (LBA), a state-licensed and state-accredited institution, has become a beacon of inspiration, support, and family-oriented values. The founder, Di Tran, has always envisioned a place where students can grow not only in their skills but also in their ability to care for and support one another. This vision has come to life in countless ways, but perhaps never more vividly than in the recent interaction between two students, Natalia Rios and Shanell Rodgers.

Louisville Beauty Academy, Kentucky beauty college, state-licensed beauty school, state-accredited beauty institution, family-oriented beauty academy, supportive beauty environment, Di Tran, nail student, cosmetology student, beauty education, nail art inspiration, tattoo art, creative nail designs, miniature nail art, rediscovering passion, artistic pursuits, transformative education, inspiring beauty students, beauty community, cosmetology-inspired nails, passion for creativity, supportive beauty education, beauty school community, beauty academy values, heart and soul of beauty.

Natalia, a dedicated nail student, demonstrated the essence of LBA’s spirit when she went above and beyond to support Shanell, a cosmetology student preparing for a hair convention. Shanell wanted her nails to reflect the theme of the event, but finding inspiration for cosmetology-inspired nail art proved challenging. Undeterred, Natalia turned to tattoo art for creative ideas, showcasing her adaptability and commitment to her craft.

This endeavor was more than just a task for Natalia; it was a journey back to her childhood passions. “Doing this kind of intricate designs of miniature nail art brings me back to a hobby as a kid. I loved to color, draw, and paint with all kinds of mediums – acrylic paint, watercolors, crayons, markers, colored pencils. My favorite thing to do was large cartoon drawings,” Natalia shared. The demands of life led her to put aside her artistic pursuits at a young age, but through her education at LBA, she has rediscovered her love for creativity.

Natalia’s story is a testament to the transformative power of education and passion. Her ability to bring her ideas to life and inspire others is a shining example of the values LBA instills in its students. “I never knew how much I needed this – the feeling to get lost in something I love. I feel honored to be able to inspire other artists to get lost in their work too,” she reflected.

At Louisville Beauty Academy, students like Natalia and Shanell are not just learning skills; they are rediscovering passions, building friendships, and creating a supportive community. Di Tran’s vision of a caring and loving educational environment has truly come to fruition, making LBA a place where beauty is not just about appearance, but about the heart and soul of its students.
